Dogs have been domesticated for 20,000 to 40,000 years

How long have dogs been man’s best friend? A genetic analysis has shown the continuity between present-day dogs and those of Neolithic Europe. The genetic divergence between dogs and wolves dates back 40,000 years with a second split between Eastern and Western dogs occurring 20,000 years ago without one getting the upper hand over the other. Domestication therefore took place during the interval.
